Michele Israel has a substantial track record in the non-profit and educational fields, generating a solid skills base and organizational expertise.
As founder and director of Educational Consulting Group/Michele Israel Educational Writing & Consulting, Michele tackles varied organizational and
educational projects for large and small nonprofit organizations and media
entities.
While communications manager at United Jewish Communities, she oversaw the
marketing activities for the Planned Giving & Endowments Department,
designing promotional collateral for 156 federations and foundations in the
United States and Canada. Among her successful efforts was a comprehensive
bequest package, as well as brochures, ads and articles.
As executive director of The Constitution Works, Michele managed a unique
civic education program serving over 8,000 students and 200 teachers each
year. In this position, she grew program income, established organizational
partnerships to enhance outreach and initiated projects that brought
democracy to life for young people.
At Lehman's College Institute for Literacy Studies, Michele directed Youth
Practitioners Institute, a literacy project for community educators from
over 50 NYC youth agencies, designed training curricula and instructional
materials, and created and facilitated workshops to enhance participants'
teaching practice.
While the principle grant writer at The Salvation Army of Greater New York,
she raised over a half million dollars from foundations, government and
corporations. During this time, Michele was also the educational consultant
to a specially funded after-school program for underserved Brooklyn and
Bronx children.
At Columbia University's Center for Population and Family Health, Michele
developed and managed mentoring/after-school programs for middle school
youth.
Michele has worked with and served diverse groups of people during her
professional tenure, including children and youth, community and classroom
educators, health consumers and providers, newly-arrived Americans,
volunteers, organizational managers and professional staff, creative
directors and media outreach managers and producers.
Michele spent four years overseas: three as a Peace Corps education
volunteer in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire), and one year
as a teacher in Israel with the American Zionist Youth Foundation. She has
been a presenter and workshop leader at numerous conferences and training
programs.
Michele holds an MA in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA in English Education and Journalism from the State University of New York at Albany. Michele has earned ASTD Certificates of Completion in E-Learning Instructional Design and Designing Learning.
